Classic matchups

Hand vs range

K8o has 38.4% against the Big Blind's calling range at 10BB.

So why does the Button shove it 89% of the time? Because the Big Blind only calls with 31% of hands. The rest of the time you win the blinds and antes without a fight.

Equity = win% + half of tie%, from 10,000 simulated boards per matchup. Hand vs range counts each hand by its combos left after your cards are removed and how often it calls. Ranges are chip-EV solves at 10BB, 6-max, with a 0.125BB ante per player.

What does equity tell you about a shove?

Equity only tells you what happens when you get called. A shove also wins every time the other players fold. That's why the Button shoves K8o 89% of the time at 10BB, even though it only has 38.4% against the Big Blind's calling range.

Common questions

What is poker equity?
Equity is your share of the pot if the hand is played out with no more betting. With 40% equity in a 20BB pot, the hand is worth 8BB to you on average. Here it's your win% plus half of the ties.
How do I use the equity calculator?
Pick a hand for each player, or tap one of the classic matchups. The numbers update straight away, and the link in your address bar opens the same matchup for anyone you send it to.
How is equity against a range worked out?
Each hand in the range counts by how many of its combos are left once your cards are taken out, and by how often the player calls with it. Then the equities against each hand are averaged with those weights.
Does the calculator use a board?
No - it's preflop only. It answers the all-in question: when the chips go in before the flop, how often does each hand win?
How accurate are the numbers?
Each matchup comes from 10,000 simulated boards, so a figure can be off by about half a percent either way.
