Solved chip-EV charts with a standard ante; a hand is listed if the solve shoves it at least half the time. The % is how much of all hands that is. Every seat and depth, plus calling ranges
6. Three ICM rules of thumb
- Near the money, calling needs more than shoving. A shove can win the blinds without a fight; a call has to win the showdown, and busting costs more than doubling up gains.
- Medium stacks tighten up the most. Big stacks can shove wider at the bubble because medium stacks can't call them.
- Short stacks behind you are your friends. When someone shorter may bust first, fold the marginal calls and let them.
Run your own stacks in the ICM calculator or the bubble factor calculator.
Common questions
- What beats what in poker?
- From best to worst: straight flush, four of a kind, full house, flush, straight, three of a kind, two pair, one pair, high card. A royal flush is the best straight flush.
- What are pot odds?
- The share of the final pot your call makes up. Facing a half-pot bet, you call 1 into a final pot of 4 (the pot of 2, the bet and your call), so you need to win 25% of the time.
- What's the rule of 2 and 4?
- On the flop, multiply your outs by 4 for your rough chance to hit by the river; on the turn, multiply by 2 for the river. 9 outs is about 36% from the flop (exactly 35%).
- When should I just shove or fold?
- From about 15 big blinds down in a tournament. At that depth raising and folding to a shove wastes chips, so most good players simply shove or fold. The ranges on this sheet are solved for 6-max.

Knowing the chart and playing it under pressure are different things. Practice the push/fold spots until they're automatic.
