Test the Push Fold Trainer Android app
The app is built and sitting in Google Play's closed testing track. Before Play will let us publish it, 12 people need to be using it for 14 days straight. If you play short-stack tournaments, that's a fortnight of free drilling in exchange for telling us what's broken.
Both are needed, in that order - the Play link only works once you're in the group.
How to join, step by step
Join the testers group
Open the Google Group and click Ask to join group. Use the Google account you actually use on your phone. Requests are usually approved within a few hours.
Check which account your phone's Play Store uses
On your Android phone, open the Play Store, tap your profile picture, and confirm it's the same account you joined the group with. This is the step almost everyone gets wrong - joining on a laptop signed into a different Google account means the app never appears on the phone.
Opt in to the test
On your phone, open the opt-in link and tap Become a tester. If it says you're not an eligible tester, your group membership hasn't propagated yet - wait a few hours and try again rather than giving up.
Install from the Play Store
The opt-in page hands you a Play Store link once you're in. Install from there, on a real phone or tablet - the app won't turn up in Play Store search, because closed tests never do.
Actually use it, for two weeks
Open the app a few times over the next 14 days, and stay opted in for the whole period. Google checks both. If you decide it's not for you, please email us rather than silently uninstalling - one early dropout restarts the clock for everybody else.
If something goes wrong
- “You're not an eligible tester” - either the group request hasn't been approved yet, or you're signed in as a different Google account than the one that joined.
- Play says the app isn't available - membership can take a few hours to reach the Play Store. Wait, then reopen the opt-in link.
- You opted in but can't find the app - install from the Play link on the opt-in page itself. Searching the store won't find it.
- Anything else - email support@pushfoldtrainer.com and we'll sort it out.
Common questions
- Why do you need testers at all?
- Google Play requires every app from a new personal developer account to run a closed test with at least 12 testers, opted in continuously for 14 days, before it can be published publicly. It's a spam-prevention rule rather than a sign the app is unfinished - the build you install is the one meant for release.
- What does the app actually do?
- It's the mobile version of Push Fold Trainer: solved 6-max and 9-max push/fold ranges, ICM and exploit practice drills, and accuracy tracking hand by hand. Same account and same solver output as the website, so anything you drill on the phone shows up in your stats on the web.
- Does it cost anything?
- No. The beta is free to install, and the free tier includes every chip-EV range plus a daily allowance of practice questions. If you already subscribe on the web, sign in with the same email and Pro unlocks on the phone automatically.
- What happens to my data?
- The same as on the web - your account email, your practice answers, and the accuracy stats built from them. Nothing is sold, and there's no ad tracking or advertising SDK in the app. You can delete your account and everything attached to it yourself from the account page, on the web or in the app.
- Is the feedback actually read?
- Yes, and it's the point of the exercise - updates go out to the test track during the testing window in response to it. Crashes, confusing screens, ranges that look wrong, anything that made you put the phone down: all of it is useful, and specific beats polite.
- Is there an iPhone version?
- Not yet. The iOS app is in progress; the web trainer works in Safari on iPhone in the meantime, and this page will be updated when there's a TestFlight build to join.
